The Mason Jazz Ensemble, directed by Jim Carroll, offers opportunities for improvisation, performance, recording, writing, leadership and service. This ensemble has performed at venues including the Shanghai Concert Hall (Beijing, China), Center for the Arts, Hylton Performing Arts Center, Jazz4Justice™ concerts, Blues Alley, Chantilly Jazz Festival, Law Day and the Jazz Education Network/JENerations Jazz Festival (New Orleans, LA).

Mason Jazz Ensemble
One of the Mason Jazz Ensemble's most recent performances, in May of 2022, was the Big Band Showdown at the Center for the Arts where they played hits from the Big Band era alongside special guests, the Loudon Jazz Ensemble.

Maria Schneider

Maria Schneider, Grammy Award-winning composer, conductor, Mason Artist-in-Residence, and leader of Northern Virginia’s own Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra, lead a masterclass with our students in the Mason Jazz Ensemble on in April 2022, before her performance at the Center for the Arts.
