The Mason Jazz Combos, a smaller chamber ensemble, are a vital part of the Jazz Studies curriculum. Directed by Wade Beach and Dr. Shawn Purcell, jazz guitar; these exploratory groups provide students opportunities in improvisation, composition and arranging as well as small ensemble performing experience. The Mason Jazz Combos perform several times a semester, with previous performances at the Mason Jazz Festival and International Jazz Day concerts, and are open to music and non-music majors, instrumentalists, and vocalists of all musical abilities.
