Biography

Dr. Tina Beveridge is Assistant Professor of Choral Music Education and Director of Undergraduate Music Education at the Dewberry School of Music of George Mason University. Although the majority of her teaching experience has been all ages and levels of choral music, in her K-12 career she has also taught middle and high school band and elementary general music. Her diverse teaching experience includes jazz, pop, and world music pedagogy, as well as other progressive pedagogies such as general music in the secondary school. At Mason, Dr. Beveridge teaches undergraduate methods classes in choral and general music, graduate seminars, and coordinates the lab ensemble and student teacher internships. In addition, Dr. Beveridge is the faculty advisor for Mason’s collegiate NAfME chapter and the student run a cappella group Mason Some Noise.

Her early experiences working in the urban settings of Seattle and Chicago directed her philosophy and research in educational policy issues, which she has published in journals such as Music Educators Journal, Arts Education Policy Review and Update: Applications of Research in Music Education. She has presented research on issues of access and equity in music education at state and national level conference, and in 2025 will take over as chair of the Social Sciences special research interest group (SRIG) for the Society for Research in Music Education (SRME) branch of NAfME. Dr. Beveridge is an active clinician, adjudicator, and performer in the Washington, D.C. metro area.

She is also an active member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and sits on the advisory and review boards of Teaching Music Magazine and Arts Education Policy Review.
