The evening service musician will report to pastoral staff effective when hired. The position is part-time and will work for 20 hours per month, from September through June with July and August off; compensation will be $30 per hour.
Immanuel is seeking an Evening Service Musician (ESM) to lead our 5:00 p.m. Sunday evening services on the first and third Sundays of each month. In collaboration with the pastoral staff and music director, the ESM will select and lead music for these services. The ESM will work with volunteers and staff to rehearse and perform the music and provide a welcoming and positive atmosphere in the worship service and rehearsals.
Essential functions include leading music for Immanuel’s evening worship service with church members and staff. Coordinating with pastoral staff, the music director, and musicians to choose appropriate music for non-traditional worship. Coordinating volunteer musicians for four weekday evening rehearsals per month and a rehearsal the day of the service. Leading setup and teardown of musical equipment for the worship service and rehearsals. Exhibits strong ability on a lead musical instrument, preferably piano, but also guitar. Using strong lead vocal skills in helping the gathered community worship. Arranging music, creating song sheets, and distributing PDFs for use by the evening band. Other responsibilities include meeting regularly with pastoral staff and the music director. Evaluating and improving the service on an ongoing basis
Applicants should have musical training, with a background in a variety of musical styles in the Christian tradition; the ability to effectively play an instrument in worship leadership, ideally guitar or piano/keyboards; a strong singing voice; proficiency with Microsoft Word, ForScore, and iPads and/or a willingness to learn; and availability by email for communication. Physical requirements include being able to move freely in and out of different group settings, church buildings, etc. Ability to move equipment for setups.
