Application & Video Audition Deadline: August 1 

The FSO strengthens its commitment to serving students through high quality education and mentorship programs with the Fairfax Symphony Diversity Fellowship Program in our Fall 2022/Spring 2023 Season! Created to help accelerate the careers of talented student musicians from backgrounds that are underrepresented in orchestras today, the FSO Fellowship is open to undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral level string students (violin, viola, cello, and double bass). The program is designed to enhance opportunities for pre-professional musicians, encourage greater diversity in the field, and increase diverse representation in orchestras across the United States.

Fellowship Benefits

  • Paid rehearsal and performance opportunities with the FSO during seven concerts of its 22/23 season at George Mason University Center for the Arts (Fairfax, VA) and Capital One Hall (McLean, VA)

Eligibility

The Fellowship is open to student musicians from backgrounds that have historically been underrepresented in symphonic orchestras pursuing undergraduate, master’s, doctorate, or artist diploma degrees in string performance. Eligible to students with the following backgrounds: African American, Hispanic/Latinx and Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, or other U.S. Pacific Islander.

Audition Schedule and Application Requirements

*Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. For best consideration, please submit your application by August 1, 2022. Preliminary Round & Application Deadline: August 1, 2022 Application and Video Audition Requirement: Please submit either the first movement exposition of a major concerto, or a movement of Bach, and two standard orchestral excerpts. Final Round – Live Audition for Finalists: August 27, 2022 Candidates selected for the second round will be sent details of excerpts to prepare for this audition.
